Nebraskans Get Relief from Unifund’s Alleged Misdeeds

Chalk one up for Car and Reinbrecht, an Omaha law firm that settled a class action lawsuit against Unifund CCR Partners of Cincinnati, Credit Card Receivables Fund, Inc., ZB Partners, ten individual collectors, and Unifund attorney Dean Jungers.

According to the lawsuit, reported by the Omaha World-Herald, Unifund ran afoul of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Nebraska Consumer Protection Act by trying to collect on debts that had passed Nebraska’s four-year statute of limitations, collectors misrepresenting themselves as attorneys, and threatening to sue consumers when they had no intention of doing so.

If a judge approves the settlement in October, the two primary plaintiffs will each receive $2,000 in statutory damages and $3,000 for being class representatives, as well as actual damages.
