Professional Bureau of Collections (PBC)

Professional Bureau of Collections (PBC) has tried to carve out a niche for itself as the “right-size” debt collection agency. It seems that PBC can’t quite run with the big dogs, since the company tries to spin the mergers and acquisitions of the debt collection giants as having “entrenched bureaucracies” that fail to deliver. PBC has two call centers (one in Greenwood Village, CO, and the other in Elk Grove, CA) and collects in all 50 states. It seems as though Professional Bureau of Collections doesn’t specialize in particular areas of debt collection; rather, it boasts of collecting on behalf of banks, retail establishments, and auto finance companies. Despite its relatively small size, PBC has been taken to court a dozen times over the past year for allegedly violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Stop Professional Bureau of Collections Harassment

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act says that it’s illegal for Professional Bureau of Collections – or any other debt collection agency – to engage in a number of behaviors. If you suspect that you’re the victim of PBC harassment, here are two things to watch out for:

  1. Calling friends, neighbors, and coworkers. The FDCPA says that PBC – or any other debt collector – can only contact a third party in order to locate you. Once Professional Bureau of Collections has your name and address, it can no longer call your friends, acquaintances, or coworkers. When PBC does call them to locate you, PBC cannot indicate that he is calling to collect a debt. Again, the FDCPA was designed to prevent embarrassment.
  2. Pretending to be from the government. It’s illegal for debt collectors to pose as government officials, or to send official-looking documents. In other words, Professional Bureau of Collection can’t send you something that looks like a legal judgment when it isn’t, or pretend to be from the IRS, the sheriff’s department, or another governmental agency.
