Javitch Block & Rathbone

Javitch, Block & Rathbone is a law firm with several offices, including those in Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus, Ohio; Nashville, Tennessee; Dallas, Texas; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Morgantown, West Virginia. Javitch, Block and Rathbone collects credit card debt, student loans, back rent, among others. It also collects on purchased debt, which means that debt buyers have bought charged off debt for pennies on the dollar, and then turned it over to Javitch, Block & Rathbone LLP to collect

It appears that Javitch, Block & Rathbone may also conduct business on behalf of Midland Credit Management, as several individuals on consumer discussion boards have complained that they receive a phone call from someone claiming to work for Midland Credit Management, though when they call back, it is the office of Javitch, Block & Rathbone.

Javitch, Block & Rathbone Complaints

As of April 2013, the Better Business Bureau had accorded Javitch, Block & Rathbone an A- rating, and had logged one closed complaint within the previous three years. In addition, during the first three months of 2013, two Javitch, Block & Rathbone lawsuits had been filed in federal court alleging violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Stop Javitch, Block & Rathbone Harassment

If you are being harassed by a debt collector, you have the right to report their unethical behavior to the Federal Trade Commission and to file suit against them for their abuse. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act prohibits debt collectors from any abusive or oppressive treatment of consumers when attempting to collect a debt. While debt collectors are allowed to call in an attempt to collect a debt, they may not call at a time or place that is inconvenient to you, such as at your workplace if such calls are not allowed, nor may they call you at any unusual time in an effort to annoy you. The FDCPA also states that debt collectors may not continuously call or engage you in conversation in an attempt to annoy you into paying a debt.

If you are being harassed by a debt collection agency, you can seek legal action against them for violating the FDCPA. If found guilty, they can be forced to pay up to $1,000 in damages, or your actual damages, in addition to your attorney’s fees and court costs.
