Focus Receivables Management

Focus Receivables Management is a collection agency that has offices in both Georgia and New Mexico, and has been open since 2001. Focus Receivables Management’s skimpy website doesn’t provide much information about the company, but it does stress that they hire “motivated” employees—aka debt collection agents—who will go the extra mile to make their clients happy. Focus Receivables Management’s motto is “Taking Care of Business First.”

Focus Receivables Management Complaints

As of March 2013, the Better Business Bureau gave Focus Receivables Management an A+ rating, even though the BBB had logged 135 closed Focus Receivables Management Complaints over the previous three years, including 38 closed Receivables Management Complaints over the previous 12 months. Out of the 135 complaints, fully 121 were regarding billing and collection issues. In addition, in the first three months of 2013, Focus Receivables Management had been named as a defendant in seven cases filed in federal court alleging violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Stop Focus Receivables Management Harassment

According to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), a debt collector cannot abuse or harass a consumer in their quest to try and collect a debt. They cannot call you outside of the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 9:00 P.M.—in your time zone, not theirs. Debt collectors are not allowed to discuss the debt with a third party. They can call third parties in order to obtain location information, but if they call your friends and family more than once—unless invited to—or reveal that they are calling in conjunction with a debt, they are in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Even if you owe the debt, you have a right to be treated with respect and dignity. If a debt collection agency is harassing you, or violating the FDCPA in any other way, you should contact an attorney who is familiar with debt collection laws. If he can prove in court that agency has violated your rights, you may be entitled to up to $1000 in damages, along with court costs and attorney fees.

  1. I have been receiving robo calls from this company. All they say is that they are Focus Receivables Management and it is an attempt to collect a debt. They do not say whom they are trying to contact and the 1-8000 number never goes to anyone. Says that the extension is not available or tonight I got a fax line.

  2. And, to boot, my number is unlisted and I have not had any credit applied for since receiving this number. It is not attached to anything financial.

  3. This company has been calling me and not saying anything for the last 3 or 4 months I finally called them and told them to stop calling me or I will sue them. I am on the National Do Not Call List and when I called them they didn’t even want to tell me why they were calling or the type of company they were. Come to find out they were looking for someone else. I had to pry out of the guy the name of the company but he would not tell me what the company was now I know. If I get one more call I am suing them.

  5. I CANCELED COMCAST CABLE TV FOR LATE FEES WHICH WAS B.S. (MAILED WAY AHEAD OF TIME)& RECEPTION PROBLEMS &THEN THEIR INCREASE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CABLE BOX WAS RETURNED TO COMCAST & HAVE THE SIGNED RECEIPT FROM THEM. NOW I’,M GETTING THESE BOGUS CALLS & LETTERS FOR NOT TURNING IN THE BOX ETC. WHAT KIND OF CO. IS THIS?

    • I am experiencing the same problem with the company that identifies itself as Focus Receivables. They call and will not say who they are looking for or who they are representing. Comcast is also a joke. I cancelled by service with Comcast about a year ago and I did not owe them a bill. I returned the equipment and now I am receiving calls from Focus Receivables about a debt. They have even posted this debt on my credit report. I have not received anything from these people in writing, them or Comcast. This should be illegal for people to demand payment of a debt without No proof or written documentation.
